Hulu With A VPNLife got so much better when streaming services were invented (except for Blockbuster employees).  Finally, we were able to watch whatever we wanted from the comfort of our couches or beds, all without having to drive anywhere or even get up.

Surely this is the pinnacle that humanity has been striving towards for all these years.  One of the most popular choices is Hulu, a site which was formed in 2007 and features content such as The Good Wife, The Flash and much more.

There is so much great content on Hulu, but there is one problem; it's not available outside of the US.  Well, it's not supposed to be available at least.  But don't worry, we have a trick that can get you Hulu, no matter if you are in Europe, South America or Australia.  All you have to do is use a VPN service and we'll teach you everything about it.  So let's jump in and get this over with, so you can start watching your favourite programming even faster.

All you have to do is use a VPN service and we'll teach you everything about it.  So let's jump in and get this over with, so you can start watching your favourite programming even faster.

What is Hulu?

Hulu is a streaming service, like Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Instead of getting your programs over free-to-air or cable television, you use Hulu or one of its competitors to access the shows you want, when you want them.  It's basically like having an entire video store on your tablet or hooked up to your TV.

You pay a monthly fee and you can watch as many of its shows as you want.  It's way cheaper than going to the movies or spending a night at a bar.

Hulu create their own content and they also buy the rights for programs from production companies.  Some of their original shows include East Los High, The Path and Difficult People.  Other shows that they offer include The Simpsons, Seinfeld, The Office and Fargo.

Why Can't I Watch Hulu Outside of the US?

Geo Blocking HuluThe short answer is that it's all due to legal complications.  Normally, when a show is made, it is sold separately in each region.  The producers will sell it to someone to distribute in the US, someone else might buy it for the UK and another person for Australia.

A lot of the time, these contracts are exclusive, so it means that they can only sell the show once in each place.  If a German distributor already has the rights to a show, Hulu generally isn't allowed to show that program there as well, even if Hulu own the US rights.

It's because of complications like these that Hulu is yet to launch overseas and why Netflix has much less material outside of the US.  Legally, they have to block non-US users from accessing their services.

How Do You Unblock Hulu?  With a VPN Workaround.

So now that we know how Hulu works, let's dive into how to get around it.

You know when you click on some online content and it won't play because it says, ‘This video is not available in your region,' or something similar?  That's called geo-restriction.

Whatever website that you are using can see which country you are from and if the content isn't supposed to be shown where you live, it will show you that message instead of playing it.  All you have to do is trick the website into thinking that you are from the US.

So how do you trick Hulu?  With a VPN.

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network.  It's complicated, but in essence, a VPN can provide an encrypted tunnel for all of your web traffic, so that your ISP, the government and sites like Hulu can't tell what you are doing or where you are.

If you connect to a VPN server based in the US, then go on to Hulu, it will think that you are in the US.

It's that easy.

How to Use a VPN with Hulu?

The first thing you will need to do is sign up to a VPN.

Below, we have a list of the best VPNs for Hulu.  Once you have signed up to the VPN, you will need to install the client, open it and get connected.

Go into the server settings of the VPN client, then select a US-based server.

Once that is all done, you will just need a Hulu account.

Log in to it and if you have everything set up correctly, it will think that you are in the US and offer you all of that wonderful content.

It's not a technical process and in less than 10 minutes, you can be watching all of your favourite shows.

Another one of those VPNs that has very few unsatisfied customers, IPVanish is a choice with fast connections that is great for watching Hulu.

They also have great customer support and a no logs policy.

#3: NordVPN

If you are looking for high security along with your Hulu, NordVPN is a great choice.

Their speeds are plentiful for streaming and they have more than enough servers available.

Unfortunately, it's only available for Windows at the moment, so Apple users may have to try one of the others on this list.

#4: Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access is a great all-rounder that is more than capable of streaming.

They offer over 3000 servers in 24 different countries.  They don't take logs which is excellent and the customer service is good.

You shouldn't have too many problems if you sign up with Private Internet Access, however, it's not the greatest VPN for watching Netflix… in fact, it straight up doesn't work with it.

#5: VPNArea

It might be a bit on the expensive side, but there isn't much else you can hate about VPNArea.

With lots of fast servers and up to five simultaneous connections, it should be great for Hulu.  They don't take any logs either, which is fantastic.
